One killed, 14 injured in motor accident

Suhum, Jan. 20, GNA - One person died on the spot and fourteen others were seriously injured when a Benz bus on which they were travelling crashed into a valley at Tetteh Nkwanta, near Suhum on Monday.

The dead was identified as 74-year-old trader, Felicia Adobea Koranteng from Koforidua.

According to the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU), the bus, with registration number AS 5831 N, was travelling from Koforidua to Accra and on reaching Tetteh Nkwanta a cobra suddenly emerged from under one of the seats, which created a stir among the passengers.

Following the ensuing commotion, the driver panicked and lost control of the steering sending it to crash into the valley. All the injured passengers including the driver were rushed to the Suhum Government Hospital and the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, while the body of the victim was deposited at the Suhum Hospital morgue for autopsy.

In a related development, when the Ghana News Agency visited the scene of the accident, a 76-year-old woman who lived around the accident spot, said the snake whose appearance allegedly led to the accident, was still hidden in the vehicle and all attempts to kill it had failed.
