One person dead, four injured in a conflict in Yilonaayili

One person have been confirmed dead and four injured with gunshot wounds in a conflict over a parcel of land in the early hours of Tuesday involving four communities close to the Tamale metropolis.

Mumuni Dramani, 40, was confirmed dead with gunshot wounds and the body had been deposited at the morgue of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), whilst Yakubu Dramani 40, Mumuni Dramani 30, Mumuni Sufeini and Mahama Iddrisu were injured and are receiving treatment at the TTH.

Twenty one suspects have been arrested by the police while 38 life cartridges, 6 single barreled guns, two short guns, one locally manufactured pistol, 9 cutlasses and machetes, military uniforms and several talismans have been retrieved from the suspects.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ebenezer Tetteh, the Northern Regional Public Relations Officer, briefing the media in Tamale on Tuesday said, one Adam Yahaya went to a petrol filling station nearby and was attacked by a group of people from the Yilonaayili community without any provocation.

He said the police swiftly moved to the crime scene bringing the situation under control stressing that the police have increased their presence in the area, noting that, the conflict zone was closer to the Tamale Airport.

He explained that the Kumanga community members rescued Adam Yahaya and on their way home, the Yilonaayili, Nyanshe and Kogni communities mobilized a reprisal attack resulting in the calamity.
