One person has been gunned down in renewed communal clashes between Konkombas and Anufors in Chereponi in the Northeast Region.
The clashes renewed Saturday afternoon at Naduni where feuding locals prevented each other from farming on a disputed land.
By evening, tensions spiraled out of control resulting in violent conflict at Nambiri, and spread overnight to Koro where several houses have been torched.
One person on a motorbike was hit by a stray bullet at Nambiri and was taken to Mongo in neighbouring Togo for treatment, a local chief has confirmed. Tension is high, especially in Naduni, he adds.
However, according to him, military personnel with heavy weapons from nearby Saboba district have arrived in the area and seized control over the situation.
The two tribes have been fighting sporadically since 2017. With about five major hostilities so far, nearly 20 people have lost their lives and over 1,5000 forced to flee their homes.
This latest violence follows just two days after president Akufo-Addo took an official visit to the impoverished district and admonished residents to end the fighting and embrace peace and harmony for accelerated development.
