Ho, July 31, GNA - Ms Adwoa Sakyi, a steering committee member of Network for Women's Rights in Ghana (NETRIGHT), on Friday observed that only affirmative action could get more women into Ghana's parliament.
She therefore reiterated the call on all political parties to adopt affirmative action to get more women into parliament.
Ms Sakyi made the observation at a day's sensitization seminar organized by NETRIGHT for women in Ho.
She noted that while the status of the Ghanaian woman was improving academically, interestingly, it was becoming more difficult to make them appealing to electorates.
"The current situation where we have only 19 women parliamentarians out of 230 is unacceptable and we need to do something," Ms Sakyi said.
She called for the Constitution to be reviewed to create some space for women as done in some countries.
"The state must recognize the citizens as part of decision making and women form the majority," Ms Sakyi said.
