Orphanage International Ministry to build a University

Accra, Dec. 31, GNA - Orphanage International Ministry (OIM) a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) catering for orphaned and abandoned children is soliciting for funds to build a University to provide higher education for its needy but brilliant students.

Pastor Ludwig Aferi, President of the OIM said at the orphanage Gospel Show on Saturday that the organisation was making efforts to secure a land to build the university that would include facilities like a Library Complex and Auditorium. He said five of the children who performed creditably had been admitted into Tertiary Institutions but the organisation was finding it difficult to sponsor them due to the high fees being charged. Pastor Aferi said the idea to build a University was mooted since 1992 but attempts to secure a land for the project had proved futile due to the numerous land litigations surrounding the acquisition of land in Accra.

He said: "One specific case in point is a land I bought at Mayara near Pokuase in 1992 to start the University but this was not spared the usual land litigation. Just this year, the Queen-mother of the area, Nana Obuobi I, informed me that the litigation was over and the court had ruled in favour of the organisation." He noted that some international organisations had accepted to sponsor the project with one of them pledging an amount of 65,000 US dollars adding that the project would definitely started in 2007and called on all well wishers to assist. Mr. Gavivina Tamakloe, Patron of the IOM who chaired the function said the need to support the organisation to enable it help the children could not be overemphasised. He appealed to the various organisations and individuals to help in to achieve this objective in order to offer higher education to the children to enable them to effectively contribute their quota to national development.
