Awutu Ofaakor (C/R), Aug. 18, GNA - Officials of the Department of Social Welfare in the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District (AESD) of the central Region are distributing second-hand clothing to some orphanage homes and needy people in the district.

So far, Good Shepherd and Nahadatu orphanage homes at Awutu Ofaakor, Adwukwa Women's Group, Emmanuel Light Association in Winneba and some flood victims in the Mfantseman and Abura Asebu-Kwamankese District were among the beneficiaries.

Mr Godwill Acquah, District Social Welfare officer disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency, when distributing some of the items to the Good Shepherd Home at Ofaakor on Wednesday.

Mr Acquah thanked Project Implementation Organisation (PRIO), an NGO based in Kasoa for presenting 30 bales of second-clothing, costing 150 million cedis to be distributed to the needy in the district. According to him, PRIO received the items from its mother organisation in the United States upon a request.

Mr Acquah appealed to other organisations to emulate the example of PRIO and come to the aid of the needy in the society.

Rev. Atta, who received the items on behalf of Good Shepherd, thanked the officials of Department of Social Welfare and the NGO for their kind gesture and prayed for more of such assistance in the future. Meanwhile, the NGO has presented similar items costing 20 million cedis to the authorities of the Asamankese Government Hospital after undertaking an hour clean-up exercise at the hospital.

Mr Thomas Wiredu, Public Relations Officer of the hospital told the Ghana News Agency at Kasoa that, the NGO has earlier this year, distributed second-hand clothing to some needy people in the Northern Region.
