Dr Nana Henne Ababio, Managing Director of World of Friends Orphanage in the Berekum Municipality, on Friday cautioned orphanage home operators to be wary of people who capitalize on inmates to make wealth abroad.
He alerted that some people are going round orphanage homes in the country, compiling basic information about the inmates and taking their photographs, a practice which is unlawful.
These people approach the homes with the pretext of trying to seek support from abroad for the orphanages, but they end up circulating such information about the inmates for their personal gains, Dr Ababio told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview.
He explained that few days ago some people including foreigners visited his orphanage and succeeded interviewing some of the unsuspecting inmates and took their photographs.
Dr Ababio said it was an offence to give profile of inmates to outsiders, and advised operators of orphanages to report to the police or social welfare if they come across such people.
He recounted that established in 1994 with 25 inmates, the World of Friends Orphanage currently can boast of 100 inmates, and appealed to the general public to support either in kind or cash towards the upkeep of the children.
Dr Ababio suggested that orphanage homes be provided with subsidy from government, especially in the importation of vehicles.
He stated that the orphanage had recently re-integrated 25 inmates, who were adopted in their infant stages with their extended families after successfully completing universities, training colleges and other tertiary institutions
