The Chief for Asafo, also serving as Otumfuor's Akwamuhene, Akyeamfour Boakye Agyemang Bonsu, has made a passionate appeal to the government and Ghana Education Service to deploy more teachers to Wansamre Public School in the Atwiman Nwabeagya North in the Ashanti Region.

Teacher shortage at the school has raised concerns about the long-term impact on the community's youth, who are critical to Ghana's future development, with the entire basic school having only four teachers.

With education being a cornerstone of national progress, the chief believes addressing this shortage is imperative to ensure Wansamre's students receive the quality education they deserve.

The renowned Chief made the call when he joined Elders of Wansamre to tour some educational facilities in the area on September 25, 2024. The move was part of efforts by Wansamre to seek Asafohene's intervention in addressing the community's educational challenges.

Asafohene emphasized that Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, prioritizes enhancing education in the region. He expressed concern that the lack of teachers will adversely affect the community's younger generation, who are Ghana's future leaders.

Asafohene questioned the disparity in teacher allocation, noting that Wansamre had more teachers when it was less developed. "Why should they lack teachers now that Wansamre has grown into a big town?" he asked.

The Chief of Wansamre, Nana Kofi Abebrese, revealed that repeated requests to the District Director of Education have yielded no results. The community has taken initiative by building teachers' bungalows, yet only four teachers are currently serving at Wansamre School.

Asafohene and Nana Abebrese are calling on stakeholders, including other Ashanti Region chiefs, to support addressing the teacher shortage and establishing a teacher award scheme to promote effective education.
