To promote nutrition and well-being, more than 400 elderly individuals from Atuabo, Anokyi, and Asemnda Suazo in the Western Region were treated to a nutritious feast at the “Dine with the Aged” program.
Organised by the Firm Health Ghana Foundation in collaboration with Ghana Gas on December 24, 2024, the event aimed to address the nutritional needs of the aged while fostering a sense of community and celebration.
According to the Executive Director of the foundation, Dr. Sylvester Akpah Darko said, “the elderly have unique dietary needs, and we ensured today’s meals were rich in essential nutrients to boost their immunity, promote strength, and support overall well-being."
Held at the forecourt of the Gas Processing Plant in Atuabo, the program created a festive atmosphere as participants shared meals, laughter, and joy.
Dr. Akpah emphasised, “Beyond feeding the body, the event also nourished the spirit, bringing joy to the vulnerable members of the community during this festive season."
He further explained, “We did not only give them food; we also had a medical outreach where we brought health practitioners to check their health and provide necessary medication for their well-being. We believe that when they are healthy, it brings joy into their lives and relieves them of some of the health burdens they carry.”
Dr. Akpah added that it was important to reach out to the elderly during this season to bring smiles to the faces of fathers and mothers, especially during Christmas.
The Head of Community Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility of Ghana Gas, Safo Hayford, expressed the company’s gratitude for being part of such a meaningful initiative.
“Giving back to our community is a cornerstone of Ghana Gas’ mission. This event is a testament to the value we place on our elders and their well-being,” he stated.
Beneficiaries were full of praise for the organisers, with many describing the day as unforgettable.
“This is one of the best Christmas gifts I’ve ever received,” said Maame Esi, an elderly woman from Atuabo.
Another participant, Kofi Mensah, shared, “The food and care we’ve received today have warmed my heart. I really appreciate it.”
The “Dine with the Aged” program not only provided physical nourishment but also underscored the importance of compassion and unity in building stronger communities.
