The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the Fountain Gate International School (FGIS) in Bolgatanga has held a meeting on the urgent need to beef up security at the school.

The school, which is one of the best in the north of Ghana in academic and other disciplines, has one of the best security systems, but the PTA is worried about recent insecurity in the country and attacks in neighbouring Burkina Faso and has called for the beefing up of security.

The Chairman of the PTA, Mr Peary Larry, addressing the meeting said current happenings in the country, whether true or speculative called for beef up of security at the school and a broader training for all the categories of security attaches engaged by the school.

He said as parents, it was not out of place if concerns about beefing up of security took center stage at the meeting and expressed gratitude to members of the PTA for identifying security issues for redress.

As part of measures to beef up the security in the school, the PTA recommended comprehensive training for all categories of security persons working in the school to make them more conscious about their roles.

The school also announced plans to acquire and CCTV cameras at various vantage points to ensure proper visibility of the entire school.

The PTA also discussed how to reward teachers and staff through the institution of an award scheme.

Mr Larry expressed gratitude to members for turning up in their numbers and helping to reach decisions taken to grow the school.

Some parents commended teachers of the school for their hard work and urged them to enforce discipline and ensure that the pupils abide by rules and regulations of the school.
