PTA of MPASS supports suspension of 12 students

Mpraeso, Feb. 26, GNA - The Parent Teacher Association(PTA) and the Old Students Association (OSA) of the Mpraeso Secondary School(MPAAS) had jointly declared their support for the indefinite suspension of 12 final year students of the school for involving themselves in sex scandal at a hotel at Bepong.

The associations, however, recommended to the Board of Directors of the school to allow the affected students to write their final Senior Secondary School Certificate of Examination (SSSCE) in April since they had already registered for the examination.

The decision was taken at well-attended meetings of the two bodies at Mpraeso on Saturday, and jointly announced by the PTA chairman, Mr Daniel Anim-Somuah and the chairman of the OSA, Mr Ohene Damptey. In a statement, they described the suspension as "very appropriate punishment" for the students to keep them away from luring others into similar immoral conduct and to maintain the image of the school. The Headmaster of the school, Mr Patrick Owusu-Manu, had during an earlier briefing of the meeting, announced that among disciplinary measures put in place to forestall similar incidents, students were now expected to report for classes at 0630 hours and 1730 hours for morning and evening classes respectively.

He added that two final year students were also recently de-boardnised for bullying junior students. The Assistant Headmaster of the school, Mr Seth Amoako urged parents to co-operate with the school authorities to mould the character of their wards for them to become responsible adults to contribute to national development.

Mr Anim-Somuah told the meeting that the PTA was spending over a billion cedis to construct an assembly hall, additional girls dormitory and extension to the dinning hall to accommodate the increasing enrollment.

The school authorities recently suspended indefinitely 12 final year students, including two boys, for leaving the school without permission and spending the night at the Moonlight Hotel at nearby Bepong.
