Wa, June 25, GNA- Mr. Cletus Paaga, Upper West Regional Director of Education on Saturday urged parents and guardians to take advantage of the capitation grant and the NEPAD school feeding programme to send their children to school.
He said with the provision of the two interventions by the government, it was now a challenge to parents to ensure that their wards acquired basic education by enrolling them in school. The Regional Director of Education however, pointed out that it was not enough sending their wards to school without ensuring that the children remained in school until they complete. Mr. Paaga made this call when he addressed the 37th Speech and Prize-giving Day of the Saint Francis Xavier Junior Seminary Secondary School in Wa.
He also explained the computerized school selection and placement system, which, he said eliminates the frustration usually encountered by parents as they had to move from one school to another to find admission for their wards under the previous system of selection. Mr Ambrose Dery, Upper West Regional Minister, who was the guest of honour urged the school to maintain the impressive academic record it had achieved over the years.
He however, appealed to the school authorities to consider increasing its annual admission of forty-five students to cater for more qualified candidates.
The Minister appealed to the school to take sporting activities seriously in addition to its academic pursuit. The Reverend Father Cletus Segtub, Rector of the School, in his report, said the school was established 43 years ago by the Wa Diocese of the Catholic Church to serve the church and Ghana. He appealed to the government for assistance to the school, especially a fence wall.
As part of the occasion, the Regional Minister dedicated a renovated classroom block, which was financed by the Parent Teacher Association of the school and other friends of the seminary. Prizes were distributed to students who excelled in their various examinations.
