Kumasi, July 5, GNA- Pastors have been advised to desist from openly identifying themselves with political parties. Reverend Joseph K. Gyimah, leader of the True Light of Christ Church, who gave the advice, said they should also avoid the practice of advising their congregation into siding with a party.
Rev Gyimah, who was addressing the second quarterly meeting of pastors of the church in Kumasi on Sunday, said even though pastors had the right to belong to parties of their choice, it is morally wrong for them to openly identify themselves with a party.
"The role of the pastor is to preach messages that would unite the congregation instead of dividing members", he stressed.
He urged churches to appreciate the unique role peace, security and stability plays in evangelism and development of the church. Rev Gyimah cautioned the congregation that prayers for national peace should not be seen as the sole responsibility of only "men of God, but rather as a duty of all Ghanaians".
