Feyiase (Ash), May 5, GNA - The people of Feyiase in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma district of Ashanti on Sunday raised 25.2 million cedis at a fund-raising harvest toward a water project which is estimated to cost about 2.4 billion cedis. The project is under the European Union (EU) micro projects, which is expected to make available 1.960 billion cedis for the cost of the project.
Mr Yaw Barima, chairman of the Feyiase unit committee who made these known to the GNA said the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma district assembly is expected to pay for five per cent of the total cost and the beneficiary community would contribute five per cent.
He said resident males were paying 20,000 cedis while females were paying 12,000 cedis and non-resident males were paying 40,000 cedis and women 30,000 cedis towards the payment of the community's share. Mr Barima said the community had targeted raising two billion cedis for the water project and the completion of the building of a community centre on which about 120 million cedis have been spent. In an address read for him, Mr Bright Addai-Mununkum, the District Chief Executive, commended the people for their self-help spirit and said work on a market complex had been started in Feyiase. Nana Adoma Asantewaa II, Queenmother of Feyiase, appealed to the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) to construct speed ramps in the town to help check the increasing spate of accidents that at times resulted in deaths.
She said eight people had been knocked down and killed by vehicles in the town last year and one person has so far been knocked down this year.
