Yefri (B/A) Oct.11, GNA - The people of Yefri in Nkoranza district of the Brong-Ahafo Region at the weekend realised 32 million cedis during an appeal for funds towards the construction of Police barracks in the town.
The project initiated by Okoforobour Osei Bonsu II, chief of the town, was to protect life and property.
Captain Nkrabea Effah-Darteh (Rtd), Deputy Minister of Interior and Member of Parliament for Berekum who cut the sod for work to commence on the project commended the people for their self-help spirit. He said the Government appreciated efforts of communities that initiated development projects to improve their living standards.
"Such communities will always continue to attract support from the Government and NGOs because the Government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility of development in the country," he added.
Capt. Effah-Darteh commended the chief and the people for their foresight to ensure the welfare of police personnel and security of people from neighbouring towns.
He pledged five million cedis to support the project and gave the assurance that the Ministry of Interior would also provide 10 million cedis to support their efforts.
Mr. James Kwabena Appiah-Awuah, Nkoranza District Chief Executive, said the Assembly would support the project with 100 bags of cement. Mr. Appiah-Awuah advised students of the Community Day Secondary School in the area to lead morally upright lives and take their studies seriously to be assets of society.
Mr. John Mawule Formedi, Wenchi Divisional Police Commander Commended the people for their efforts to construct the police barracks. Nana Osei Bonsu, appealed to the Government to rehabilitate the Nkoranza-Jema-Nkwanta road to facilitate movement of people goods and services.
