Pharmacists asked to adhere to new standards

Koforidua, May 19, GNA - The Chief Pharmacist of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Mr Felix Yellu, has called on pharmacists in the Service to ensure that they abide by the recently developed standard operating procedures, as well as guidelines and operational policies in dispensing drugs.

He asked them to regard these new standards as very relevant for promoting the strategic objectives of the health sector, especially in the areas of quality, access and efficiency.

Mr Yellu made the call at the opening of a five-day training-of-trainers workshop on the Standards for Pharmaceutical Care (SPC) and the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for about 50 pharmacists drawn from the GHS countrywide at Koforidua on Wednesday. He said the new policies were developed to harmonise splinter initiatives in the regions and to ensure a harmonious and sustainable practice among practitioners.

The ultimate goal, he said, was to achieve a client-focused, quality-driven and results-oriented service, adding that there was no opportune time than now to go alongside with the implementation of the National Health Insurance Scheme. 19 May 05
