Photos: Why clean gutters and leave waste on street?

Many were those who lauded government when the Local Government Ministry set 1st of November as National Sanitation Day, especially when cholera had wreaked havoc on unguarded citizens.
But few days after the exercise, which was heavily patronised by the low and mighty including the Asantehene, President and Ministers of State, the sorry sight at Lapaz near the Las Palmas restaurant needs to be dealt with without delay.
Apparently residents and waste agencies cleaned some gutters in the vicinity and carted away some of the waste but the overflow meant some were left not collected; but till date the waste comprising filth, liquid waste and polyethene remains on the N1 highway, a highway which caused good money to construct with compensation fees paid residents whose structures were in the way of contractors.
Whiles waste agencies have neglected their duty, residents and sellers go about their business unperturbed by the ugly sight with its inherent health implications which also takes the shine away from our tourism status.
This writer calls on citizens, waste collection agencies, the Accra mayor and any concerned individual who has the tools and means to help cart away this disgrace.
Watch the disheartening photos.
