Plan International launches report

Plan International in there Global Youth Voice Research Report has suggested that much work needed to be done by stakeholders and policy makers to accelerate changeand tackle entrenched violation of girls’ rights.

Mr. Richard Buadu, Central Regional Plan area Programme Manager, said this at the launch of the report at a durbar held at Ekumfi Eyisam.

The study was conducted in 11 countries where Plan spoke to over 70,000 adolescent girls.

He said the research was conducted in Bangladesh, Ecuador, Pakistan, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Benin, Cameroon, Liberia, Zimbabwe, Uganda and Egypt.

The report showed that girls’ empowerment and school equality were the main participatory tools and methodology used for the research based on theory, practice and provide a new way of asking girls for their views of their experiences.

Mr. Buadu said the goals of the research included empowering girls and boys to report, generate data and analysis about their perceptions of their own empowerment and to provide decision makers with credible information to impact change.

It was revealed thatgirls constantly limited, constrained and subjected to injustice that stunt their opportunity and also their situation could only truly improve when everyone in the society values girls.

He said the results gathered would aid Plan in its programing to match local needs and also promote the tools and methodology used for the research as contributions to knowledge and practice for others working on gender equality and girl’s empowerment.

Mr. Ibrahim Kweku Dawson, Ekumfi District Chief Executive, said the Assembly appreciated efforts of Plan since 1997 when they started operating in the area and added that the Assembly would study the report and use it as a working document to ensure the rights of the children especially the girl child.
