Police hunt for killer

Kumasi, Jan. 7, GNA - The Kwaso police have mounted an intensive search for one Kojo, who reportedly shot dead Robert Adade, a by-stander during a heated confrontation with one S.K. Nyamekye over the seizure of a gun at Kwaso in the Ejisu-Juaben district on Sunday.

Kojo's accomplices, Kwasi Dumesi and Keteku, who also inflicted cutlass wounds on another person have been arrested by the police and are helping them in their investigations.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency on the incident in Kumasi on Wednesday, Police Superintendent Paul Siaw, Ashanti Regional Crime Officer, said on January 4, there was a misunderstanding between one Kwasi Kwakye and S.K. Nyamekye, a farmer.

He said in the ensuing misunderstanding, Kwakye threatened to shoot Nyamekye and this prompted him (Nyamekye) to report to the Kwaso police. Superintendent Siaw said the police consequently seized the single-barrel gun with which Kwakye threatened Nyamekye.

He said the seizure of the gun did not go down well with Kojo, who together with his accomplices, threatened to retrieve the gun at all cost and therefore, vented their spleen on Nyamekye.

According to the Regional Crime Officer, a heated confrontation therefore, ensued between them and Nyamekye during, which Kojo fired a shot which killed Adade, who was standing by while Dumesi and Keteku also inflicted cutlass wounds on Mensah and fled but were later arrested at their hideout.
