Police officer, two others escape death

Three people including a police officer narrowly escaped death on Sunday morning, October 5, when a Metro Mass Transit bus they were travelling in collided with a taxi at Blacker junction, in Tarkwa.

The victims include Lance Corporal Stephen Osei, 30, stationed at Tarkwa, while a 15 year-old girl, Josephine Kada and the taxi driver Isaac Oduro, 30 sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the Tarkwa government hospital for treatment.

The two policemen have been referred for intensive medical care.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Honu-Broni, the Divisional Motor Transport and Traffic Division Commander for Tarkwa, confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency.

He said on Abukari Dodoo, was driving the bus with registration number GE 3230-12 with 32 passengers on board from Tarkwa Commercial bank area and was heading towards Takoradi.

ASP Honu-Broni said when he got to a section of the road near Blacker junction popularly known as SAG, he allegedly had a brake failure while descending the hill.

He collided with a Kia taxi Pride with registration number GE 6694-Z.

It was moving from the main Tarkwa lorry station to Bogoso with the two passengers on board.

He said the driver was currently in police custody and the vehicles involved in the accident have also been impounded for testing.
