Police to deal drastically with armed robbery in Northern Region

Buipe (N/R), June 25, GNA - ACP Angwubutoge Awuni, Northern Regional Police Commander has affirmed his readiness to deal drastically with armed robbery incidents, which had gained notoriety and was rampant in the Region. He said the regional police command and its personnel were prepared to sacrifice their lives to fight and curb armed robbery and all other social vices, prevalent in the area. ACP Awuni gave the assurance when he addressed the people and chiefs of Kablipe, a village near Buipe in the Central Gonja District, who had complained to the police about incidents of several armed robbery attacks in the area.

He said the area had been very notorious with criminal activities including armed robbery, murder and rape, suspected to be perpetuated by Fulani herdsmen, and that nothing would stop the police from offering the needed protection to all citizens in the north. ACP Awuni advised the people in the area to report any suspicious character to the police, adding, "Policing must be the responsibility of community members who have to give out information leading to arrest of suspects".

He said majority of convicts and the remand prisoners in the Northern Region were Fulanis and advised the herdsmen to fish out their colleagues who were involved in carrying out such acts, so that there would be peace and order in the area. The commander also advised the Fulanis to control their cattle properly to ensure that the animals did not destroy farms in the area. ASP Nana Kumis of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU said 45 persons died last year through motor accidents in the region and advised the people to wear crash helmets to protect them survive accidents.

He urged those ridding without license to also register for both driving and vehicles licenses to be at the safer side of the law.
