Police urged to prosecute traffic offenders

Mr Joseph Mensah, a Sunyani Magistrate has called on personnel of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service to be vigilant and to promptly prosecute traffic offenders to save lives and property.

Mr Mensah made the call on Friday when he sentenced William Kyeremeh, a driver, to a GHc100 fine for driving without fastening a seat belt on the Sunyani-Chiraa road.

He pointed out that most private and commercial drivers on the roads failed to adhere to traffic regulations but were often let off the hook by the police.

Police Chief Inspector Francis Addo, prosecuting, told the court that the police on duty arrested the accused driving a Ford bus with registration number GW2492-W without fastening a seat belt.

Kyeremeh who pleaded guilty to the charge, would serve four months imprisonment in default.
