Politicians urged to ensure peaceful elections in December

Abura-Amantsendo (C/R), May 17, GNA - The Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mr. Kobina Anyinsah has appealed to aspiring political candidates to conduct their campaigns in a manner that would not create tension and disrupt the peace and security of the nation.

He also urged the media and the security agencies to be vigilant and upright and also exercise greater circumspection in handling issues of national interest.

Mr. Anyinsah was speaking at a sensitisation durbar organized at Asebu-Amantsendo in the Central Region as part of the activities marking the Fourth Constitutional Week Celebration.

He reminded Ghanaians of their duties under the constitution to uphold, defend and foster national unity, and live in harmony with one another.

Mr. Anyinsah expressed confidence that with the sober reflection of the national pledge, Ghanaians will appreciate the importance of striving to maintain national integration.

The Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District Environmental Officer, Mr. Paul Cobbinah, commended the NCCE for their untiring efforts in educating them on their civil responsibilities.

The Chief of Asebu-Amantsendo and the Gyasehene of Asebu Traditional Area, Nana Obirempong-Nyimoh IV expressed their sincere thanks to the NCCE and those who participated in the exercise. The District Commander of Police, DSP Twumasi Ankrah also enjoined religious and traditional leaders to be fatherly and ready to intervene to defuse situation likely to degenerate tension. 17 May 04
