Prampram Chief to issue caveat against sale of land

Prampram, Aug 25, GNA - Nene Tetteh Djan 111, the Paramount Chief of Prampram, has announced his intention to issue a caveat against the sale of family lands in the Prampram Traditional Area.

Nene Djan, who spoke at the celebration of the Homowo festival at Prampram on Tuesday, said he was prepared to spend GH¢2,450 on the caveat to safeguard the lands for the future generation.

He expressed regret about the rate at which family heads were disposing of their land without regard to their responsibilities of protecting their families' properties.

"Family heads should have the primary responsibility of protecting the family's property instead of disposing them off and buying cars and houses with the proceeds", he said.

Nene Djan appealed to the people of Prampram to demand accountability from their family heads.

He said recent publications of land title registration in the media showed that 49 out of the 425 publicized lands that had been offered for sale were Prampram lands.

The Chief said it was unfortunate that large portions of family lands in the traditional area were being sold at cheap prices to people and companies who are not indigenes.

He said these buyers, who buy about 30 to 35 acres each, then sell them out later at higher prices.

Nene Djan expressed his misgivings at the involvement of some prominent people in land sales and advised them to protect their farm lands for their relatives.
