Kumasi, Feb 4, GNA - Dr Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour, President of Old Students' Association of Prempeh College, has called on students of the school to avoid social vices and to uphold the good name of the educational institution.
He noted that the school has trained many eminent people such as President John Agyekum Kufuor who now occupy responsible positions in Ghana and outside the country.
Dr Osei-Kuffour, a medical practitioner, was speaking at the first Prempeh College Founders' and Pioneers' Day (1949), in Kumasi on Saturday.
He said the joint efforts of individuals and institutions that resulted in the establishment of the school were recognised in the composition of the school's crest.
Papa Owusu-Ankomah, Minister of Education, Science and Sports who represented President Kufuor, said the history of the school emphasised the government's policy of collaborating with the church, traditional authority and community to build a great nation.
He advised the students 93As we celebrate the event, let us see it as an occasion for renewal of generation, rediscovery of values upon which the school was established so that it would chalk bigger laurels".
Papa Owusu-Ankomah said government would do its best to support the school because of its sacrifice, commitment, discipline and dedication to academic work.
Professor Yaw Ahenkorah, Vice-President of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences and a pioneer student, said 93We are satisfied that our alma mater is on focus and that it stands tall in committing students to helping others."
Mr Owusu Achaw, Headmaster, said Prempeh College was a product of a fruitful collaboration between the Kumasi Traditional Council, the central government, the Presbyterian and Methodist Churches. He appealed to the government to expedited action on work on the Kufuor Assembly Hall and to provide more infrastructure to facilitate teaching and learning.
