Techiman (B/A), April 29, GNA - The President's nominee for the position of Techiman Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Alex Kyeremeh was on Wednesday given unanimous confirmation by the members of the assembly.
Mr. Kyeremeh, aged 47, who lost the Techiman North Constituency parliamentary seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the December 2008 general election polled 57 out of 60, representing 95 percent of the valid votes cast. Earlier, Mr. Adjei Mensah, a 39 year old educationist was elected as the Presiding Member of the assembly. He had 41 valid votes out of 60, forming about 70 percent of the total number of ballots.
Mr Kyeremeh expressed appreciation to members for their spirit of cooperation, saying "your overwhelming confirmation of my nomination by the President is going to be our foundation to give the Techiman Municipality a face-lift".
He said the municipality was saddled with problems including sanitation, inadequate and irregular supply of water and provision of electricity. He urged members to continue with the spirit of unity to improve upon the fortunes of Techiman.
Mr. Kwasi Oppong Ababio, the President's nominee as the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive has been confirmed by the assembly members. Mr. Ababio, a 54 year old agricultural extension officer polled 25 out of the 27 valid votes cast in an election conducted and supervised by the officials of the Electoral Commission in Sunyani on Tuesday. Mr. Otu Essel, a legal practitioner was also elected as the Presiding Member of the assembly.
By the close of nominations only Mr. Essel, 55, had filed to contest the position and he secured 26 votes. Mr. Ababio in his acceptance speech thanked the assembly members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work hard to ensure rapid development of the municipality.
