Sekondi, May 17, GNA - Mr Philip Kwesi Nkrumah, acting Shama-Ahanta East Metropolitan Chief Executive, on Tuesday said the assembly has drawn up a comprehensive programme to keep the metropolis clean during CAN 2008.
He was speaking at a forum organised by the Metropolitan Assembly to explain its policies and programmes at Sekondi. Mr Nkrumah said the metropolis must exhibit environmental cleanliness before and during the tournament that could offer an opportunity to market the area to investors.
He asked the people to start now to keep their surroundings tidy so that environmental sanitation would not be a problem at the time of the tournament.
Mr Nkrumah said all houses should have places of convenience and landlords whose houses are without the facility should immediately take steps to provide one or be taken to task. He said the Environmental Health Division of the assembly would embark on house-to-house inspection to find out those without places of convenience.
Mr Nkrumah said it is an offence to block roads for funerals and other social functions and that the Metropolitan Assembly is considering demarcating some parts of the area for such activities.
