Prominent cocoa farmer drowns in River Krokro

Afodowa (W/R), March 11, GNA- The body of Opanin Kwadwo Wireko, prominent cocoa farmer aged 56, was discovered in river Krokro by a search party from Afodowa and Akontombra-Nkwanta in the Aowin Suaman District on Tuesday.

He was believed to have slipped into the river when he tried to cross it on a log used as a bridge over the river.

Mr. Agyemang Kwame and Mr. Kojo Abdulai, farm hands of Opanin Wireko told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Afodowa that the deceased who is also a palm wine tapper sometimes pass the night with a friend at nearby Kwasi-Adukrom and so when he did not return that day, they did not suspect that something had happened.

It was the following day when they learnt that he did not lodge with his friend that they became alarmed and formed a search party to look for him.

When the body was discovered, two bottles of akpeteshie and a tapper's knife were found in a sack hanging on his shoulders. A team of Policemen from Dadieso who were informed took the body to the Enchi government hospital for examination. The body has since been buried.
