Wa, Aug. 22, GNA - Officials drawn from Municipal and District Assemblies, Departments and government agencies in the Upper West Region, at a workshop at Wa, on Friday, appraised issues on Public Finance Management and how monetary inflows had impacted on the communities they were intended to serve.
Some of the issues discussed at the workshop were cash irregularities; payroll overpayment and errors; procurement and stores irregularities; contracts and tax irregularities. It was organized by the Audit Service in collaboration with the Controller and Accountant-General's Department, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, the Internal Audit Agency and the Public Procurement Authority.
In an address read on his behalf, the Upper West Regional Minister, Mr. Mahmud Khalid said good public finance management and the judicious utilization of public resources were vital tools for achieving the government's objective of improving the quality of life of Ghanaians. He stated that the government's commitment to ensuring a better life for all citizens could be achieved only when public officers, who were entrusted with the nation's resources, cooperated and adhered to the regulations governing the use of those resources. 22 Aug.09
