Inadequate classroom blocks for the Mensahkrom Roman Catholic Primary School in the Buoku Electoral Area of the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region have forced the school authorities to hold classes for pupils under a tree in the area.
During a visit to the predominantly farming community, the Ghana News Agency (GNA) noticed that teaching and learning were being conducted under a tree, as some of the schoolchildren sat on the bare floor.
The only school building constructed by the community lacked space and could therefore not accommodate the growing pupil’s population in the area.
Due to the condition of the school environment, the GNA learned from some of the teachers that teaching and learning were always unproductive during the wet seasons.
The situation is also pushing some parents and guardians to use their school-going-age children and ward for farm work.
Some of the teachers who spoke to the GNA on condition of anonymity said the school had made persistent appeals to the Wenchi Municipal Assembly, but to no avail, and appealed to the public to come to the aid of the school and to sustain the interest of the pupils in school.
