Racing Okada rider dies in fatal accident

Mr John Arizi, an okada rider at Tikobo Number One, died shortly on arrival at the Half Assini Government Hospital, after his motor cycle was involved in a fatal accident near the town.

Another rider, Mr Joseph Kabenlah, also from the same town, who drove into the accident vehicles, is receiving treatment at the Eikwe Catholic Hospital.

The Jomoro District Police Commander, Superintendent John Furguson Dzineku, disclosed this known to the Ghana News Agency at Half-Assini on Monday.

According to him, the accident occurred at about 2000 hours on Wednesday June 24 at Tikobo Number One in the Jomoro District.

He said on that fateful day, both Mr Arizi and Mr Kabenlah were racing with two unregistered royal motobikes on the main Takoradi-Half Assini road at the outskirts of the town.

The Police Commander said during the race, the riders overtook themselves in turns, and in the process they incidentally ran into two vehicles from the opposite direction.

According to the District Police Commander, Arizi ran into the opel astra, while Kabenlah who was following him closely, crashed with the KIA spacestar.

They were seriously injured and rushed to the Half Assini Government Hospital for treatment, but Arizi was pronounced dead on arrival, while Kabenlah was referred to the Eikwe Catholic Hospital.

The body has since been released to the family for burial after autopsy at the same hospital, the Police Commander added.
