Rainstorm destroyed a number of school buildings in Fanteakwa

Saamang (E/R), March 23, GNA - Rainstorm that hit some parts of the Fanteakwa District last week and early this week had caused severe damages to some school buildings in the district. Among the schools affected were the Osino Senior High School where the roof of the Form Four classroom was ripped off by the rainstorm damaging a portion of the Boys Dormitory in the process. At Abompeh, the roof of the Salvation Army Kindergarten was ripped off and fell over a house causing some damages but no human casualty was recorded.

At Saamang, the roof of the District Assembly Junior High School was ripped off exposing textbooks, exercise books and other documents of the school to the rains.

The whole of the structure housing the Saamang RC Kindergarten was razed to the ground by the rainstorm while part of the Saamang Methodist Primary School block was damaged.

Speaking to the press after inspection of the schools at Saamang on Tuesday, Mr Kwadwo Osei Owusu, District Director of Education, appealed to the District Assembly and Parent/Teacher Association of the schools and corporate organizations to support the District Education Directorate to rehabilitate the school blocks. He said this must be done as soon as possible to enable the children to go back to school especially those preparing for their final examinations.

Mr Abass Fuseini Sbaabe, Fanteakwa District Chief Executive, said he had directed the District Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization to access the damage.
