Rainstorm destroys property valued at 400 million cedis

Tamale, May 28, GNA- A severe rainstorm has destroyed 14 houses and a Vocational Training Centre at Kandiga Junction of the Akuru-Dorboo electoral area in the Kassena-Nankana District of the Upper East Region. The storm destroyed almost everything standing in its way, ripping off roofs, crushing down houses and displacing about 200 families who are now staying with relatives and friends.

The storm destroyed property valued at about 400 million cedis. Osofo Patrick A. Appullah, Proprietor of Hans Rudat Skills Training Centre at Navrongo told the Ghana News Agency in Tamale that the badly damaged structures include the Centre and a five-bedroom hostel, which provides accommodation for the field staff of the Navrongo Health Research Centre and the Widows' Ministry, which provides vocational training skills for widows.

Osofo Appullah who built the Centre with proceeds from his farming activities, appealed for assistance in cash or in the form of building materials to rehabilitate the destroyed buildings.

Osofo Appulah who is also the National Vice Chairman of the Cotton Farmers' Association and General Secretary of the Apex Farmers Organisation of Ghana, appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation, the Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, the District Assembly and Non- governmental Organisations for assistance.
