Swedru-Abramkese (Ash), Oct. 6, GNA - A storm which hit Swedru-Abramkese township in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District of Ashanti last Friday and ripped off the roofs of buildings, has rendered about 130 people homeless.
Property destroyed also ran into several millions of cedis. There were, however, no casualties.
Public buildings which had their roofs ripped off, included the Swedru-Abramkese old primary five and six block, the kindergarten, the junior secondary school while roofs of 19 houses were also ripped off. Mr Daniel Asuo-Afram, the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District Co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), has visited the twin towns to assess the extent of damage to property.
He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that his office had sent a formal report on the disaster to the Ashanti regional office of NADMO for immediate assistance to enable them return to their homes as they were presently living with friends and relatives.
Mr Bright Addai-Mununkum, the District Chief Executive, said the assembly would rehabilitate the affected school structures to enable the displaced pupils to return to school as soon as possible.
