Ebusuapanyin Kweku Okanta, Regent of Swedru has broken grounds for the construction of GHC800,000 Ultra-Modern Information, Communication and Technology(ICT) laboratory and library complex for Agona Swedru to facilitate the study of ICT.

The facility, a self-help project planned by the Swedruman Council of Chiefs will be built by funds raised through contributions of individuals and corporate bodies.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ebusuapanyin Okonta noted that Ogidigram Okobioko Asiedu Kobena Botwe II, Swedruhene who is currently out of the Country was determined to ensure the early completion of the project so that pupils and students in and around the Town could benefit.

Consequently, this year’s Akwambo festival would have fundraising as its flagship programme to support the project and appealed to the government, citizens of Agona Swedru home and abroad and financial institutions to offer support.

The Regent who is also the Ebusuapanyin of Swedru Omankrado appealed to corporate bodies and individuals who made pledges towards the project to fulfil them to enable the project Implementation Committee to commence their work.

He said the world had become a global village through technology and therefore required knowledge driven human beings who were technologically inclined to take the mantle of all sectors of the Country.

He urged people of the Town to treasure the project because it would serve as good legacy for posterity and urged traditional rulers and leaders in the communities to study ICT for their own good.

Ebusuapanyin Okanta planted two coconut seedlings to serve as commemorative trees at the project.

Mr Samuel Kingsley Eduful, Akwambo Planning Committee Secretary said the Ultra-modern ICT and library complex project was one of the solutions to the challenges of providing sustainable resources for development.

He said it would also create job opportunities for the youth and provide solid foundation for people who want to study ICT and pledged the Committee’s resolve to make the project a model one within the Central Region.

Mr Eduful urged the residents of Agona Swedru to pay their levies to ensure its early completion.

Nana Kweku Esieni, Nifahene of Agona Swedru and Chairman of Swedruman Educational Committee said the purpose of the project was to bring lasting solutions to the difficulties encountered by pupils and students of the Area in computer studies.

Mrs Justina Marigold Assan, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) in a speech read on her behalf praised the chiefs for the initiative and said the Assembly would provide technical support to the project to avoid shoddy work and delays.
