Rehabilitation work to begin on Mampong Lorry Park

Mampong (Ash), May 9, GNA - Rehabilitation work on the Asante-Mampong main lorry park will soon begin, Mr Thomas Edward Atakorah, Sekyere West District Chief Executive has announced. Announcing this at a meeting with transport unions at Mampong on Friday, he said the station would be paved with bricks.

He urged the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), occupants of the main lorry station to move to a temporal place allocated to them by the assembly to enable the contractor to begin work at the site. Mr Atakorah said the project to be executed by Adom Super Block would be completed by the end of August this year.

It is to be paved at a cost of 30 million cedis with funds from the District Assemblies Common Fund.

The DCE noted that the project when completed would enhance the beauty of Mampong as well as meet travelling passengers' desired comfort.

He advised GPRTU and the Co-operative Transport Union (CTU), the two main transport unions in Mampong not to fight over loading right as the latter moved from its present loading station to join GPRTU at the main lorry station on the completion of the project.

He advised drivers in the district to stop over-speeding, noting that it had been one of the major causes of lorry accidents on the Mampong-Kumasi highway in recent time.
