Dabaa (Ash), Oct.11, GNA - The people of Dabaa near Akropong in the Atwima Nwabiagya district of Ashanti have expressed concern about shoddy work on some development projects being undertaken for the community. The projects are the Junior Secondary School block, a multi-purpose workshop and teacher's bungalow.
Speaking at an educational forum organized by the District Education Directorate at Dabaa at the weekend, Nana Adu Gyamfi, Chief of Dabaa said while the JSS block and multi-purpose workshop had developed cracks, the contractor working on the teacher's bungalow had abandoned the work and could not be traced.
He therefore, appealed to the district assembly to assist the community to identify the contractors on the projects to resume work on the teacher's bungalow whilst improvement was made on the JSS block and workshop.
Mr Emmanuel Fofie, a citizen of the town, appealed to the Government to involve beneficiary communities in the award of contracts to enable them monitor work on development projects.
Mr C.K. Akowuah, Headteacher of the local basic school, said the teachers were committed to sacrifice and work hard to improve on teaching and learning but regretted that lack of stationery for pupils was frustrating their efforts.
He said the kindergarten had no permanent block to accommodate the over 70 children admitted this year.
Mr Akowuah said the JSS had no place of convenience and a recreational field and therefore, called on the community and district assembly to address the problem.
Mr Thomas Ofori-Donkor, Atwima Nwabiagya District Chief Executive said the assembly would provide cement for the construction of a kindergarten and asked the community to provide sand and labour for the project.
He said basic schools in the district, would be supplied with furniture to improve on teaching and learning and advised the communities to initiate priority development projects to be assisted by the assembly.
