The residents of Sawua in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region have vowed to prevent the government from commissioning the Ashanti Regional Hospital if their abandoned road is not fixed by the time the project gets to the commissioning stage.

According to Prince Kwame Adutwum, the Assembly member for the Sawua Electoral Area, the government awarded the road from Sawua Junction to Sawua township to a contractor to grant easy and smooth access to the facility.

"The contractor, after being awarded the contract, removed the coal tar portion of the road to reconstruct the road through to the hospital but has since left the site, he added.

Speaking to OTEC news reporter Sarkodie Samuel, the Assembly member revealed that the contractor, after abandoning their road, has commenced construction from Feyiase to the hospital, stating that the government has forgotten that the 150-acre land for the hospital project was offered by Nana Sawuahene.

Prince Kwame Adutwum further noted that they will not allow the hospital to be commissioned if their road is not fixed, saying, "No Sawua Road, no Regional Hospital."

Meanwhile, some aggrieved residents of the community, especially those who farm on these lands, expressed worry over how they reasoned with Sawuahene to offer their lands for the project, knowing the significance and impact it would have on their lives after completion.

They continued to state that they would embark on a massive demonstration against the government and do everything possible to stop the commissioning of the facility if their demand was not met.

According to the residents, Nana Kwaku Amankwaa Sarkodie II, Sawuahene, in 2007, allocated the aforementioned acres of land to the then government for the project after the government proposed such a facility in the Bosomtwe District.

The disturb chief has been seeking the completion of the road construction and has always received assurance from the current government that the Sawua road is a priority because it is the same route officials will use during the commissioning of the facility, only to hear that the government wants to change the route to the hospital.
