Residents of Teleku-Bokazo urged to return home

Essipong (W/R), Oct. 9, GNA - Mr Patrick Timbillah, Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of Operations, on Tuesday appealed to the residents of Teleku-Bokazo who had fled the community in the wake of clashes between some community members and the police to put the clashes behind them and return to the community to carry on their day to day activities.

He made the appeal when he briefed the press about his visit to Teleku-Bokazo to assess the situation on the ground after the recent confrontation between the police and residents.

Mr Timbillah was happy that life in the community is returning to normalcy and said the Police had embarked on peace building in the community so that those who had left would feel safe to return. Mr Timbillah said it was unfortunate the Police were attacked by the people and advised that this should never happen again adding investigations would, however, continue to bring the culprits involved in the attack on the Police to book.

He said people were free to demonstrate within the confines of the law but added that the Police had been charged with the maintenance of law and order and the public should collaborate with the police to ensure that this was done.

Mr Timbillah said nowadays the maintenance of law and order was a shared responsibility between the police and the public. He said the police and the public should recognise the rights of each other and not take the law into their own hands while carrying out this responsibility.
