Tema, Dec. 12, GNA - The Most Reverend Dr. Robert Aboagye-Mensah, Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana on Sunday called on leaders to seek God's guidance and protection in all decisions they take in order to come out with constructive decision that will be accepted by all.
He said, decision making is a very difficult task because after listening to criticisms and suggestions, leaders are left alone to take the final decision and this calls for God's directives, adding that where matters get tough leaders must confess.
Most Rev. Dr. Aboagye-Mensah was delivering the sermon to induct the Right Reverend Maclean Agyiri Kumi into office to become the first Resident Minister of the Tema Joint Church.
He likened a difficult decision-making to the time when Jeremiah, in taking hard decisions, alienated himself from family issues and close relations to avoid influence.
Turning to politics, the Most Reverend called on the electorate to be vigilant always to put politicians on their toes, especially during elections so that they do not win elections the cheap way.
Politicians, he noted, fail to implement policies when they are not monitored and urged the electorate to continue showing interest in governments' administrations to have informed information to either criticise or offer suggestions.
Later in an interview on the December seven general elections, the clergyman noted that this time round people voted on policies rather than on ethnic lines.
He therefore, advised those blaming the Fantis for voting against Professor John Evans Atta Mills, a native, to cease forthwith because to him they had a reason for doing so.
The Right Rev. Kumi pledged to accept the discipline of the Church and commit himself to the new trust and responsibility reposed in him. Rt. Rev. Kumi, aged 65, was born at Nankese near Suhum in the Eastern Region. He had his primary education at the Adukrom Methodist and Presbyterian United School and after his secondary and tertiary education became a Reverend Minister of the Methodist Church and served in various capacities.
The Tema Joint Church, a non-denominational Church was started in 1992 with a membership of 27 and increased to over 900. The Officiating Clergy included Most Rev. Justice O. Akrofi, Arch-Bishop of the Province of West Africa, Rev. Dr. Fred Deegbe, General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana. 12 Dec. 04
