Okomfo Baffour Gyau, a member of the Fetish Priests Association of Ghana, has revealed that many water bodies in Ghana are powerless due to the ripple effect of Galamsey.
According to him, the deities and spirits in the water bodies cannot act accordingly and are now helpless because of the damage caused by illegal mining activities.
Speaking at the 14th Yam festival in the Bibiani Old Town, the priest also noted that the increase in social vices like robbery and disasters isresult from the powerlessness of the gods in river bodies.
“At first, people were afraid to engage in deviant behaviours due to the fear of the wrath of the gods upon them, but now it is not like that anymore because they will not respond if you summon them to act”.
He added that the spirits in river bodies have now stopped protecting the country and some communities, and due to that, there is a high mortality rate among young people and other kinds of diseases affecting people.
He called on the government to put proper measures in place and end the menace of illegal mining activities that are destroying the country.
