Road Safety Awards slated for November

This year's Road Safety Awards dubbed "RSAwards 2015" is scheduled for November 13, 2015 in Accra.

The Awards was instituted by the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) in 2010 as an annual event to recognise and reward commercial transport operators who put road safety systems in their operations to enhance the safety of their passengers and others.

A statement signed by Mr David Osafo Adonteng, Director for Planning and Programmes at the NRSC, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the scheme had grown to include corporate institutions, the media and individuals whose efforts in their respective service provision made a significant contribution to road safety management.

“This year, the scheme has extended its recognition to include rewarding drivers who have exhibited exemplary behaviour in driving from August 2014 to July 2015.

“Also included to the reward list are basic schools from across the country who have taken self-initiatives to put in place some measures aimed at protecting the school from road traffic deaths and injuries,” The statement said.

The RSAwards 2015 was officially launched on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 and preparations for the ultimate event were on-going.

Speaking to the GNA on the Media awards, Mr Adonteng encouraged media practitioners, who had published stories on road safety between August 2014 and August 2015, to enter the awards by submitting their entries and also nominate others for prizes.

He referred to a publication in the Monday, August 3, 2015 issue of the Daily Graphic, which he said was a reference for the Media in respect of this year's event.
