Rotary Club donates to schools at Winneba

The Rotary Club of Achimota has donated a quantity of teaching and learning materials valued at GH¢20,000 to the University Practice (UNIPRA) Schools of the University of Education Winneba.

The items included text books on some core subjects, exercise books and audio visual materials for primary and Junior High education were to enhance the performance of the pupils.

Dr. Theophilus Ackorlie, President of the Club, who made the presentation at a ceremony at the school, said the donation formed part of activities to commemorate the 25th Anniversary celebrations of the Club.

He said Rotary was a service organisation which identified problems and raised funds both from members and outsiders to find solutions to them.

Dr. Ackorlie, who is also the UEW Finance Officer said, in view of that, they came to a consensus to celebrate the anniversary the President lived and worked, hence the donation to the UNIPRA North schools, which lacked some teaching and learning materials.

He advised the pupils to concentrate on their studies to enable them to support their parents when they retired from active service; and also to become productive in the society because the future of the country depended on them.

The Club also promised to connect the schools to the National Electrification Grid to enable them use the electrical gadgets meant for teaching and learning.

Pastor Tweneboa Kodua, head teacher of the schools, who received the items, thanked the donors for their kind gesture, saying, the items would be used judiciously to enable the pupils to attain quality skills and knowledge to excel in all their endeavours.
