The Rotary Club of Accra South (RCAS) in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Lander British Columbia Canada has donated books and stationery worth $5,000.00 to the University of Education Winneba (UEW).
The donation which included dictionaries, research manuals, learning cassettes and videos, are among other materials meant to be distributed to hospitals and educational institutions in the country.
Presenting the items in Accra, Mrs Kristine Lartey, the President of the RCAS, said the donation formed part of the club’s social responsibilities of meeting the needs of communities, agencies, institutions and individuals both in the health and educational sector.
“All these items that is the books, hospitals beds, hygiene kits for girls, computers, and biomedical equipment are coming directly from Canada and we as a club are executing the mandate to help touch and shape lives of citizenry in the country,” she said.
Mrs Lartey urged management of the UEW to utilize the books and other materials well to help better the lives and works of the beneficiaries and make the goals of Rotary worthwhile.
Mr Adolph Agbeh, the Deputy Librarian of the UEW, who received the items, said the donation was a laudable initiative, adding that books are raw materials for the library.
He assured RCAS that the books would be put to good use for students and the faculty.
