Saint Martin's hospital gets a 10-member board

Agroyesum (Ash), May 11, GNA - A 10-member Advisory Board to oversee the efficient management of the Saint Martin's Catholic Hospital at Agroyesum, popular for treatment of the debilitating Buruli Ulcer, has been inaugurated.

Prof George Wireko-Brobbey, Vice Rector of the Ghana Post Graduate College, is Chairman of the Board.

The Most Rev Thomas Kwaku Mensah, Catholic Bishop of Obuasi who performed the inaugural ceremony, said it was the vision of the Catholic Church to make the hospital a centre of excellence. He said the church had reason to believe that the Board members would bring their enormous and varied rich experiences to bear on the management to make this happen.

Dr Samuel Nyarko Etuaful, the Medical Superintendent, appealed to the government to ensure that the mission hospitals are assisted with vital health infrastructure to better serve the health needs of the rural people.

He also appealed for immediate re-imbursement of 250 million cedis the facility had spent on the treatment of buruli ulcer patients. Prof Wireko-Brobbey said the Board would ensure regular training for all categories of health professionals at the hospital for efficient performance.
