One of Ghana’s foremost author of children books and teen novels, Samelia Bawuah has visited 3 Schools in the Ga East Districts of the Greater Accra Region read with them as parts of the activities marking this year’s ‘Read Aloud Day’.
The 2014 ‘Read Aloud Day’ was observed in Ghana to help children cultivate and maintain a love for reading and to commemorate this year's programme, Ceinode Ghana, the NGO facilitating the Read Aloud programme in Ghana surprised children of the schools they visited by inviting the favourite children author Samelia Bawuah to read aloud with them.
The read aloud train visited Elim School at Madina, Abokobi Presby Schools and Akporha Model School, all in the Ga East District of the Greater Accra Region. Some of Samelia Bawauh’s popular novels including the Judacan Series and the 3 Siblings were read with the students of the various schools visited.
Mrs. Emefa Ansah, the coordinator for the Read Aloud programme, engaged the children in various songs and read alouds to mark the day. Mrs. Ursula Afrah Mensah and Mrs. Gifty Asiedu from the Ga East District of the Ghana Education Service in charge of Girl Child Education sensitised the children on why a lifetime of reading was necessary for their continuous education and personal development.
Samelia Bawuah who is also the General Manager of Sage Publications donated some of her books to the School libraries that they visited.
