School benefits 16 billion cedis projects

Aworowa (B/A) July 21, GNA - Mr. Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi, Deputy Minister of Education and Sports has urged contractors working on projects at Asuogyaman Secondary/Technical School at Aworowa-Akrofrom in Techiman Municipality to speed up work to enable the school to enrol more students next academic year.

The Minister visited the model school in the municipality, to inspect work on on-going projects estimated at 16 billion cedis provided under the government's efforts to enhance education.

The projects include two-storey dormitory blocks for boys and girls, a two-storey classroom block, five masters' bungalows, administrative block, computer laboratory, library block and assembly hall. The Deputy Minister admired the quality of work of the contractors but and urged them to intensify efforts to complete the work on schedule.

Addressing the staff and students of the school, Mr. Ampofo-Twumasi announced that the Ministry of Education has mandated heads of Senior Secondary schools to institute the committed punishment desirable for any indisciplined student.

He expressed concern about student unrests and acts of indiscipline in some schools and asked the school heads not to tolerate acts that contrary to school rules and regulations.

Mr. Ampofo-Twumasi cautioned the students against illicit sexual practices and other social vices and advised them to learn hard to become responsible citizens.

Mrs. Akua Debrah, Regional Director of Education, who was accompanied by Mr. Kwabena Agyemang-Badu, Acting Techiman Municipal Director of Education to the Ministry of Education to provide accommodation for directors of education in Municipal and District Directorates of Education.

Mrs. Debrah also commended the contractors for creating a pavement to facilitate the movement of physically-challenged students to the computer laboratory block.

Mr. Agyemang-Badu called on the Deputy Minister to provide the School with mono desks to check the students from cheating during examinations. Nana Kwaku Manu, Headmaster of the School appealed to the Minister to provide the school with a bus to facilitate the movement of the staff and students.

Mr. Owusu Yeboah, Director of Jeabour Commercial Enterprise Limited, a contractor working on the school projects said about 95 per cent of the work has been completed and gave the assurance that all the facilities would be ready for use before schools would re-open in next September.
