Odumkyere-Darmang (E/R), July 3, GNA - The West Akyem District Chief Executive, Mr Kwabena Sintim Aboagye, has inaugurated a 700 million-cedi school block for the Islamic Primary School at Odumkyere-Darmang near Adeiso. The block of six classrooms was built from the district assembly's common fund.
Inaugurating it Mr Sintim-Aboagye said the district had submitted the names of 34 communities which were expected to benefit from new school building projects under the newly introduced "school under trees" programme to the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports. Mr Sintim-Aboagye said 105 untrained teachers in the district were pursuing a special training programme instituted by government to help untrained teachers to acquire diploma in education. He said to complement the government's efforts at providing adequate teachers the assembly also offered sponsorship to 50 students to enter teacher training institutions every year so that after their course they would teach in the district.
Additionally, under the Youth Employment Programme, 133 youths were employed to teach in schools in the district. The District Director of Education, Rev. Emmanuel Antwi, said there were programmes to give technical and vocational skills to those who were unable to continue their education after JSS. The Chief of Odumkyere-Darmang, Bafour Agyei 1V who chaired the function, thanked the District Chief Executive and the District Assembly for their care and concern for the needs of those in deprived areas of the district. 03 July 07
