Sunyani (B/A) Sept. 9, GNA- Anxious parents and guardians on Thursday besieged the premises of Sunyani Polytechnic on Thursday where heads of Senior Secondary Schools (SSS) are picking the cards of students for admissions.
The two-day exercise is expected to end on Thursday. As some of them scrutinized for the cards of students with good grades, that is between aggregates six and 10, who chose their schools as first choice, others waited patiently for the rejected ones.
The exercise, from all indications, has been very hectic following the Ghana Education Service (GES) warning that any school head who flouted its directive not to admit more than 500 new students would be personally held responsible.
The GES explained that the directive was dictated by the current spate of indiscipline among students and inadequate facilities at some schools.
The availability of certain basic facilities in some schools determined the academic performance of their students and most parents would want their children to choose those schools.
Some of the parents appreciated the efforts of government to provide the basic facilities in many schools but urged Municipal and District Assemblies to support such efforts.
