Ho, July 11, GNA - The Volta Regional Police on Friday assured that it was capable of responding rapidly to all security related challenges in the region. Mr Bernard Dery, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) of the region, who gave the assurance in response to questions asked at the region's Meet-The-Press series in Ho, said all the five Divisional Commands in the region have trained adequate stand-by men to be recruited for deployment if the need arises. Mr Dery said regular highway patrols have been instituted throughout the region to prevent highway robberies. He said but for a few such robberies mainly on the Aflao-Accra highway during the CAN 2008 tournament when the highways were open, the region is virtually free of such robberies. Mr Dery said the Volta Region is strategic to the country's security for which reason the government was committing more resources to ensure that nothing was left to chance as far as security in the area was concerned.
He said once the Volta region was secured against the influx of criminals from across its borders then the entire country could be assured of its security. He said the various divisional commands were, therefore, being strengthened for crime prevention and management through a 24 hour surveillance. Mr Dery said the Regional Police Command was liaising with Ghana Telecom to ensure effective 24-hour communication between the various levels of Command and the public. He said the police would continue to depend on the public as a vital ally in securing peace and law and order in the region.
